No need to spend money on hair detangler! Use watered-down conditioner.
When a bottle of my conditioner is at the point where it's difficult to get any more out of it, I fill it with a little bit of water and shake it up, then store it with the kid shampoo. After I wash and rinse Roo's hair, I squirt a bit of the watered-down conditioner into my hands, rub to coat them, then smooth it over her hair. Then, without rinsing, I comb through her hair. If the hair needs a bit more, I repeat. If I've used too much, I rinse her hair lightly.
Of course, detangler is only a couple of bucks at Target, but I get some smug satisfaction in doing without.
