As part of the party favor goodie bags, as mentioned, we followed my friend Niki's lead and made CDs of Shmoo's favorite tunes. You will see that we rely heavily on a few albums of kid-directed music. We threw in a few extra toe-tapping and sweet tunes to round out the mix. Click on the links to see videos or hear the tunes.
We're Going to Be Friends - Jack Johnson
Electric Car - They Might Be Giants
Are We There Yet? Trout Fishing in America
Meet the Elements - They Might Be Giants
I Am a Paleontologist - They Might Be Giants
Bottle of Sunshine - Milkshake
Roy G. Biv - They Might Be Giants
Daydream Believer - Shonen Knife
(They Long To Be) Close to You - The Cranberries
Philadelphia Chickens - The Bacon Brothers
What Makes You Happy - Liz Phair (sorry, parents, for the inevitable question "what's a bastard?")
Dance The Night Away - The Mavericks

Excellent mix! I did one for #1's 3rd birthday, which began with bouncy dancey music and then quieted down to lullaby level, and it was a similar mix of kid stuff and adult stuff that kids like (or SHOULD like!).

Great mix. i now keep a running list on my phone of the boys favorite songs during the year and those are the ones I put on the disc. Paleontologist was the only kid song on my list this year so it got scrapped because it didnt fit with all the other stuff since Noah's favorite stuff is now White Stripes, Muse, Death Cab, Metric and the like. I have to watch out for obvious inappropriate content, like The Killer's Mr. Brightside which didn't make it. Today Ray was asking about other kids birthday discs and I told him not every parents make them for their kids and he said "They must be so sad."
