The average human ovary is about the size of an almond (pictured above, top). You will probably guess what I am about to say about the potato.
My doctor discovered about a week ago that a cyst on my left ovary (which my provider had monitored a couple of years ago, but it wasn't a concern at the time) has grown to 8 cm, the size of the potato above. It is now a “complex cyst” which the doctor uses interchangeably with “tumor.” Anyway, as a result of a number of lab tests and imaging, we have scheduled a surgery to remove the entire ovary. While I'm still under anesthetic, they will send samples to pathology. If malignancy is indicated, they will do a more extensive surgery: removal of the other ovary, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, etc.
My surgery is set for the morning of Nov. 18. I will probably spend at least 2 days at the hospital, and recovery is expected to be 4-6 weeks. Handsome Ponytail Ranger is taking 2 weeks off work beginning Nov. 15. Family members will be here to help out over the next several weeks. We are blessed with tons of support from local friends as well.
Please hold me in the Light or hold me in your prayers or hold me in your thoughts or just hold me.
And don't hold the potatoes.
